Everything you need to know about manufacturing Shells, equipping Crowns, and the permanent risk of losing your progression in Cycle 5 Shroud of Fear.
Shells & Crowns – The New Face of Progression
In Cycle 5 Shroud of Fear, your clone body is now a physical, craftable item called a Shell. Skills and memories are stored in Crowns that you physically slot into your Shell. This system brings real consequence, losing a Shell means losing everything imprinted on it.
Players manufacture specialized shells in the Nursery, store them in the Nest, and use the Ascension protocol to convert earned experience into Crowns.
All Shell Variants
Crowns – Memory Constructs
Crowns are the physical items that hold your learned skills and traits. You create them through the Ascension protocol and equip them on the dedicated Shell Sheet.
- Crowns are persistent and can be moved between Shells
- They can be lost forever if your current Shell is destroyed
- Each Crown you create contains player-earned progression
The Nursery – Manufacturing Shells
Shells are produced in the specialized Nursery facility. Production works like any other industry job and takes significant time.
- Aggressive Shell
- Reaping Shell
- Rugged Shell
- Blank & Ancient Shells
The Nest – Storage & Body Swapping
Finished Shells are stored in the Nest. From here you can activate any body you own. When you switch, your old Shell goes into storage automatically.
Real Consequence – Losing a Shell
If your Shell is destroyed in combat, all Crowns and memories imprinted on that body are permanently lost. This is the core risk/reward of the new system.
The Ascension protocol gives a partial safety net by converting some memories into permanent “Self Memories”, but most progression stays tied to your physical clone.
The New Frontier Awaits
Shells and Crowns have transformed progression into a tangible, high-stakes industry. Choose your role, craft the right body, protect your Crowns, and survive the Shroud of Fear.
Master the Nursery and Nest – the players who do will dominate Cycle 5.
